🔹 What is a Ledger in Tally Prime?
A Ledger in Tally Prime is like a notebook or record where you keep the financial details of a particular account or person.Every transaction in Tally (like sales, purchases, payments) affects at least two ledgers (this follows the double-entry accounting system).
🔹 Types of Ledgers:
There are many types of ledgers, but some common ones are:
Ledger Name | Group Belongs To | Used For |
---|---|---|
Cash | Cash-in-Hand | Cash transactions |
Bank (like SBI) | Bank Accounts | Bank-related transactions |
Sales | Sales Accounts | Sales made by the business |
Purchase | Purchase Accounts | Items purchased |
Capital Account | Capital Account | Owner’s investment |
Drawings | Capital Account | Money withdrawn by owner |
Sundry Debtor | Sundry Debtors | Customers who owe you money |
Sundry Creditor | Sundry Creditors | People you owe money to (suppliers) |
🔹 Example:
Suppose Adarsh buys a phone from Reyansh for ₹20,000. You’ll need these ledgers:

🔹 How to Create a Ledger in Tally Prime:

Go to Gateway of Tally → Press
Alt + G
→ Type Create Ledger or go to:
Accounts Info
→Ledgers
→Create

Fill in:

Name of the ledger (like "Adarsh")

Group it belongs to (like "Sundry Debtors")

GST and other details (if needed)

Press
Ctrl + A
to save
